ulie Johnson is true to her Texas roots, performing a diverse compilation of heartland music... country, bluegrass, classic rock and blues. Her music is about connecting with people, relating through life's experiences... a storyteller singing straight from the heart. The critics talk about her music, and her voice: "Ms Johnson can sing anything," says The Dallas Morning News. Billboard declares, "This is a voice that demands your attention."
Julie's fellow musicians agree. "She has an amazing voice that goes up and down the scale," raves composer Harvey Schmidt. After hearing Julie perform, Amanda McBroom, songwriter for "The Rose", strongly encouraged Julie to pursue country music and requested she record several of McBroom's songs. Julie did, adding them to her own songs, co-writing with fellow Texan Sonny Franks. In building this diverse repertoire of music, she's recorded two CDs: All Grown Up... So Far and More Than Half Way.
Julie truly loves performing for audiences as she entertains with humorous stories and engages crowds in singing favorites like "Me and Bobby McGee" or "Proud Mary." And her audiences say she she touches hearts by allowing listeners a glimpse into her personal experiences, through songs like "Man From Texas," which she co-wrote about her late father and recorded on her debut CD. And fans find plenty to relate to in songs like the sexy "Don't You Know" from All Grown Up... So Far. In appreciation of one of the songs Julie co-wrote, Forth Worth Telegram's Punch Shaw says, "It is hard to understand why 'Phone If You Want To' ... is not at the top of every country music chart."
Whether she's performing with one musician or a seven-piece band, Julie gives her audiences everything she has. And her musical support, including renowned fiddle player Larry Franklin, really delivers.
No matter which of the musical styles she brings her life to, Julie hopes her diversity with voice and material will speak to her audience, and take on added power and meaning through her original songs.
